WHEN TECHNOLOGY BECOMES PART OF THE DESTINATION EXPERIENCE

WHEN TECHNOLOGY BECOMES PART OF THE DESTINATION EXPERIENCE

Technology in the hospitality industry today is no longer just about optimizing processes, improving operational efficiency, or helping businesses understand customers better. When combined with creative content and local identity, technology can also become part of the tourism product itself, creating new experiences and opening up more ways to tell the story of a destination.

That spirit is clearly demonstrated at HORECFEX VIETNAM 2026, where technology does not only appear in discussion sessions about AI, hotel management, or digital transformation but is also brought directly into the attendee experience.

One of the notable highlights is the Projection Mapping program “Touching the Livable City”, performed at Furama Resort Da Nang within the framework of HORECFEX VIETNAM 2026.

Inspired by the familiar title “Da Nang – The Livable City”, the program does not simply recreate beautiful images of the city but tells a broader story about nature, culture-history, people, and the innovative spirit of Da Nang through the language of light, imagery, and sound.

Projection Mapping Touching the Livable City
Projection Mapping “Touching the Livable City” at HORECFEX 2026 recreates familiar symbols of Da Nang with light and imagery, opening a new way to tell the city’s story through technology and visual experiences.

The entire architectural facade at the performance area was transformed into a giant “screen.” With Projection Mapping techniques, each layer of imagery was aligned with the structure of the building itself, creating depth and movement effects, so that the architecture is no longer just a backdrop but becomes part of the artwork.

6 minutes of performance, 45 days of preparation

Behind approximately 6 minutes of performance is a preparation process lasting about 5 – 6 weeks, equivalent to 45 days.

From conceptualization, facade surveying, 3D modeling, storyboard building, mapping content design to projector system arrangement, nighttime testing, and calibration before official operation, every stage requires high precision so that the images can match every detail on the architectural surface.

The projection system uses high-brightness Epson laser projectors with a total equipment value of about 10 billion VND, with technical solutions implemented by LOGICO Trading Co., Ltd. – the authorized distributor of Epson projectors in Vietnam; the creative content and artistic design were executed by Giant Vision.

Projection Mapping Da Nang
Projection Mapping “Touching the Livable City” not only recreates characteristic images of Da Nang but also evokes stories of culture, heritage, and Vietnamese identity through the language of light, color, and movement.

A representative from LOGICO shared: “Through ‘Touching the Livable City,’ we want to show that today’s projection technology is not just for conferences or information display. When combined with creative content and the identity of the destination, technology can become a storytelling medium, creating emotions and forming completely new experiences for tourists.”

According to the sponsor’s representative, the high-brightness Epson laser projector system was chosen to meet the requirements of a large-scale performance space, where brightness, color reproduction capability, stability, and mapping accuracy on architectural surfaces are factors that directly affect the quality of the experience.

But what is more noteworthy does not lie in the value of the equipment system.

Technology only truly has value for tourism when it helps tell the destination’s story better.

From an architectural facade to the story of a destination

From a facade at the HORECFEX 2026 event, the story of Da Nang can be retold using light, imagery, and sound.

In a similar way, a heritage site, a craft village, a museum, or a public space can also be approached using new forms. Technology can help history and culture be retold in a more visual, vivid, and emotional language for the new generation of travelers.

Vietnamese culture projection mapping
From familiar images of life, culture, and Vietnamese memories, Projection Mapping opens a new way of telling the destination’s identity – where technology helps traditional values be recreated vividly, intuitively, and closer to today’s generation of travelers.

This is also a notable suggestion for the digital transformation process of Vietnamese Tourism in the coming period.

Digital transformation should not only be understood as digitizing management processes, putting data on platforms, or applying artificial intelligence to optimize operations. Technology can also become a part of the tourism product itself.

From Projection Mapping, digital museums, augmented reality experiences, multimedia performances to AI-personalized journeys, Vietnam can completely combine technology with culture and local resources to create more new products.

Especially with the night economy, experiences based on light, technology, and creative content can provide more reasons for tourists to continue exploring the destination after daytime sightseeing, thereby contributing to extending the length of stay and increasing spending.

From that perspective, “Touching the Livable City” is not just a technology performance. It is also an example showing how a destination can use technology to refresh the way it tells its own story while still keeping identity as the core value.

And that is also the spirit that HORECFEX VIETNAM 2026 wants to convey: The Hospitality of the future is not just where guests stay, but where technology, people, culture, and experiences meet.

From quantitative growth to competing through experience

Vietnamese tourism is facing a great development opportunity. We have the market, rich tourism resources, an increasingly expanding accommodation system, and an increasingly clear position on the regional tourism map. However, the next phase requires more than just building more hotels and welcoming more tourists.

The industry needs to create new products, new experiences, and new reasons for tourists to stay longer, spend more, and return. That spirit is exactly what HORECFEX VIETNAM 2026 wants to suggest through content on technology, innovation, and practical experiences implemented at Furama Resort Da Nang.

HORECFEX VIETNAM 2026 community
HORECFEX VIETNAM 2026 gathers the Hotel – Restaurant – Tourism community to discuss new trends, from technology and AI to innovating operating models and enhancing guest experiences in the next development phase.

Technology, AI, green transformation, or new forms of experience like Projection Mapping are all tools. The ultimate important thing is how we use those tools to tell the Vietnamese story and what value we create for tourists. From spaces like Furama Resort Da Nang to forums like HORECFEX VIETNAM 2026, that story is being raised more and more clearly: technology only truly makes sense when it helps the destination create better experiences and a clearer identity.

Therefore, the next competition for Vietnamese Tourism is not just a competition for the number of visitors or the number of hotel rooms. It will increasingly be a competition for experience, creativity, and the value that each destination can create.

If this can be achieved, the goal of 45 – 50 million international visitors by 2030 will not just be a growth figure. More importantly, Vietnam can move towards becoming a destination with higher value, richer identity, smarter, and more sustainable development.
